Mt. Ka'ala Hike

The Waialua Complex which consists of Waialua High School, Waialua Elementary and Haleiwa Elementary to promote staff togetherness and to be aware of the environment of our students went on a hike to Mt. Ka'ala on June 1, 2002. Actually, it wasn't much of a hike. Two four wheel drive vehicles took us to the observatory and then we hiked about a mile into the bog which consists of many native Hawaiian plants. What a breathtaking and enlightening trip it was to hike to the top of the 4,000 ft. Mt. Ka'ala, the tallest mountain on the island of O'ahu.

There we are on the top with the Northshore and our school in the background.

The view at the top was incredible. We could see the Northshore from Ka'ena Point to Waimea Bay. In this picture we see the homes of the children that we teach. Walking a few yards from this point we could also see the Leeward Coast too.
