Students Competing in Waipahu's 1999 Shakespeare Competition

Ten students competed in an oral interpretation contest held on January 28, 1999 at Waipahu. Each student performed a monologue from one of Shakespeare's plays. The school's winner will compete in the State Competition on Feb. 27, 1999 which is sponsored by the Hawaii Chapter of the English Speaking Union. It is the aim of this international organization to keep Shakespeare's universal appeal alive and well among our students. Each year a National competition is held during the month of April at Lincoln Center in New York City. The winner of the National Competition receives a free-trip to England during the summer to visit the Globe Theatre and other cultural attractions.
