Privacy & Pop Up Windows

These are only suggestions and you do so at your own risk.  The Hawaii Home Page, llc assumes no liability in your performing such actions.

We are not computer experts, but we have surfed the web for the last 15 years and know about privacy concerns & the annoyances of pop up windows.  There are some things that you might want to consider to minimize these concerns:

• In our humble opinion, it appears that the most effective tool to eliminate pop-up ads is the Google Toolbar.  It just sits there, minds its own business and stops the ads.  You can download at Google Toolbar.  It's FREE!

• In Internet Explorer, you can go to tools, options, and privacy.  Set settings to medium high.

• Also in IE, go to tools, options, and privacy.  In the edit box you have the ability to "block" particular websites.  Every time a pop up appears, put that website in the Blocked Box.

• Download Ad-Aware.  This program is free and will advise you what spy-ware is currently on your computer. 

• Beware - Another good, free program is Pop-Up Stopper Basic.  However, many web sites, including this one, use new windows for their hyper-links.  This program will prevent you from effectively using many web sites.  If this program is running, you can double click on the tray icon and temporarily turn it off, so as to  use these sites.

• Set up a fire wall.  Sygate Personal Fire Wall is another free program and it will allow to you to control the  settings of your internet connection and to determine who can gain control of your computer.
