January - The elements aligned to make one of my favorite never-surfed-there-but-seen-it-looking-awesome spots. The only way to reach it is via boat...so seeing a possibility arise, I called my surfing buddy and we agreed to meet and take the boat offshore for an all-time epic surf session.
Unfortunatley nature did NOT cooperate, and that morning we were greeted by a lack of surf at the spot. That makes 3 times I've been skunked there in the last 18 years. I swear by all that is holy, I will surf there someday. With my boat anchored safely inside the break.
December - After taking her out at Hickam and having some real difficulty balancing the rig and shunting with Angelyne on board, I've decided to go with a traditional rig (fixed mast, tacking rig). It's just simpler to handle and will be easier to teach angelyne how to sail with it. I've already got the planks scarphed for the 24' version; for the 16' version I'll use an unstayed windsurfer mast as the forces on it aren't too bad. Probably won't see any real work on it until next summer though; with upcoming surgery and consequent recovery the shop will likely shut down for the spring, and I'm concentrating now on finishing the surfboard before surgery (see the surfboard page). I still may take it out, just as a paddling canoe, to go fish with the kids on a quiet day.
