Hawaiian Ono Hawaiian Mostly a take-out place, Ono Hawaiian, is the only Hawaiian restaurant in town. For me that is. Parking is strictly street parking and this is miserable. Going to Ono is usually and two person job. One gets dropped off at twenty five miles an hour while the other circles the block. Maybe three or four times. Surly, large men make sure you block nearby driveways on park on the sidewalk. Eating inside means the take-out crowd will stare a you and jostle you as they surge to pickup their grub. Better to eat in the comfort of your own home. What's good? Their Laulau is great. Besides being tasty it's huge; enough to feed two or three average sized folks. Their combo plate, which includes Poi, Kahlua Pig, Pipikaula, Lomi Salmon and a hunk of Haupia for dessert, is what I go for. It also includes slivers fo raw Maui Onion with a small packet of Hawaiian Salt. It definitely feeds two large people. They sell sides of Okinawan Sweet Potato that you should try. Wish their chilly pepper water packed more of a whallop. The help is friendly and they open the screened door to let you out with your styrofoamed goodies. |
