COL Nathan R. Jessup, USMC
National Security Council

Non-Player Character

Caucasian Male; DOB 23 SEPT 1943; Brown Hair, Blue Eyes. Typically dressed in a USMC uniform, although he also has a closet full of cheap suits. He is never found without a pair of sunglasses, due to his aversion towards bright lights.

A high school football star in Nebraska and son of a WWII marine, Nathan Jessup came straight out of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's ROTC program into the jungles of Vietnam. He distinguished himself in combat, serving three tours and earning the Silver Star.

After the US withdrawal from South Vietnam, Jessup served as a Defense Attache to various Pacific Rim and Central American nations. He speaks fluent Spanish, French, and passable Vietnamese and Japanese. As his career advanced, he served with various Joint Intelligence operations and commands, eventually landing the post of commandant at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

It was here that he first encountered the Mythos. A USMC Private assigned to the Naval Air Station was apparantly metamorphasing from a larval stage inside an elaborate cocoon on his bunk. The Colonel quietly ordered the entire area sterilized and the unfortunate Private incinerated.

Disguising the action as a hazing ritual punishing a "substandard" marine gone awry, COL Jessup underwent a Court Martial and was subsequently cleared of all charges, despite his tight-lipped refusal to elaborate on the circumstances of the Private's death. Jessup investigated the matter further and uncovered links to a cult of the Magna Mater in the swamps of Florida. It was during Delta Green's raid on the cult that COL Jessup was recruited into the organization.

Since then, he has participated in several Delta Green operations, using his new post on the National Security Council to combat everything from child molesting cults of Y'Golonac to the collaboration of Majestic with the Greys. Currently, he is the liason between the National Security Council's Directorate on Homeland Security and the Pentagon's newly established Homeland Security Command.

In this position, Jessup serves as a sort of Cover-Up Artist and recruiter for Delta Green, especially as regards to military encounters with the paranormal. He shows up after the fact and places a national security blanket on situations best handled by Delta Green, obfuscating everything within a labyrinth of codewords and classifications. The colonel then selects military personnel meeting Delta Green standards for participation in whatever operation follows the initial "outbreak" of Mythos activity.

"You want answers?"

"I think I'm entitled to them."

"You want answers?!"

"I want the truth."

"You can't handle the truth!"

"Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives.

"You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You want me there. We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline.

"I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it. I'd prefer you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to."
