About M68kG:

Welcome to the Mac 68k Games website, serving 68k Mac Gamers since August 5, 1997! This gaming resource is devoted to the selected few in the Macintosh community who have 68k Macs (68040, 68LC040, 68030, 68020, and etc. late processor Macintoshes), and are looking for games that are currently available for their type of computer. Being particularly 68k Mac specific, the main features of this website are the latest news in the gaming market, locations to the newest released games, and maintenance patches to update those buggy gaming applications. There are also other various interactive sections such as the reviews, links, and a 68k Mac network-able games guide for M68kG readers. Thank you for visiting us, and please tell other fellow 68k Mac gamers about this website too.

Identify 68k Macs:

Made possible in part by Brent Crandall of MacintoshOS.com for providing the 68k Mac specs (Many thanks Brent!)

Did you know that there are over 90 models of 68k Macs created solely by Apple? Starting from the oldest Mac, 128k, in 1984 to the latest one, Performa 640, blazing at 66Mhz w/ a 68LC040 and a 486DX2 (MS Windows 3.1 compatible) in 1996. Whether you have a classic or the full-blown multi-processors, you can play a large variety of 68k Mac games depending on the specifications of your machine. These are usually shown as the Software/Hardware requirements in each game release, and with this information, you match it with your own 68k Mac. Below is the listing of 68k Macs by their category, and underneath each name you should find the specs for the machine of your interest. By the way, the 637CD highlighted in the bright green color is my 68k Mac just in case you wanted to know. It deserves its day in the spotlight because it was my very first computer and, like all Macs, still works even till this day.

Identifying your Mac is extremely easy, first you must determine if it is a 68k Mac to begin with, but this is not a critical factor since PowerPCs do run these games as well. The way you can tell if your Mac has a 680x0 processor is by the model number, which will always be three digits and some other alphabets noting special features. If your Mac has three digits but isn't a 68k Mac, it must be a PowerPC clone from another company, which never ever created a 68k Mac before in the first place. Now that you have correctly identified your Mac, you can start enjoying 68k Mac games tailored to your machine's unique configuration. If you can't find your particular 68k Mac in the list given below, please contact me immediately at , so I can make the additions.

Downloaded Games:

For 68k Mac games downloaded here at M68kG, you will find that most have the .sit, .hqx, .bin, .cpt, .lha, .img, or etc. extension after the file's name. This means that the file is compressed to make your modem's life easier by shorting the time it takes to download it. Decompressing these files is a snap, you must first obtain the decompression program, however, to extract the contents of the file to your desktop or wherever you please. These decompression programs can be downloaded at most of your favorite Mac general downloading web sites like Download.com, The Mac Orchard, MacUpdate.com, VersionTracker.com, and etc. just to name a few. What you should be looking for is a free program like StuffIt! Expander, which I highly recommend because of its support for a large variety of file types and its ease of use. You can also download DiskCopy to view .img archives, which is totally free of charge from Apple. Extracting a file to a destination, you will then have a game application from which to execute and play for as long as your heart's desire. If you run into any problems during the process I've described, please contact the software or game companies responsible for the utility or game you were running. There is usually a ReadMe text file included in the folder of the program, or the About selection under the Apple logo menu during active use to get the contact information from.
