Victoria Hassan (b. 1895)


Victoria Hassan was born in 1895 in Smyrna, Turkey.
In 1919 Victoria Hassan, her fiancee Albert, her mother Mazaltov Hassan and Albert's sister Reina Hodara left Turkey for America via Paris. They were in Paris for 2 months. They arrived in Ellis Island, New York City in 1920. They settled in Harlem 8 East 116th St. between 5th and Madison. Victoria Hassan spoke only Ladino She was very active in charitable work in Harlem. She collected food for the poor. She organized a sewing circle to sew clothes for poor people. She founded the United Sisterhood Benevolent Society with her friend Victoria Hazan. (Victoria Hazan. was the President of the United Sisterhood Benevolent Society.) Victoria and Victoria played ute together.
