Editor’s Column (The Bad Dog Speaks)
Hidey Ho Good Readers. It’s time for this month’s late Scroll; your scribe has been rather busy lately with personal matters and unable to get this month’s beast out in a timely manner.
First and foremost is our longtime member Tom Miller is departing for a three-year exile to England. We wish him the best of fortune. We post in this newsletter some Living Greyhawk material he was working on before his departure.
There was also a short story he had lying around but I found incomplete! Even had a few things filled in. I guess I will be trying to finish it in a later Scroll.
This also means that there is an opening in the Greyhawk Regional Triad. I have heard that so far Dave Spielman and a relative unknown named Dan Ramberg have both requested the position from the RPGA
Next in our march of information coming out of this newsletter is the announcement that John Barnette is now Viceroy to the Bards Guild, meaning if you got a bard and want him in the guild, you know who to talk to.
Next up is point information sent by Andy Rothstien. All the points going back to Millennia Con have been posted. Also the Fright at Tristor stuff should be coming our way soon also.
Our Webmaster, John Barnette, has decided to restrict access to the DOGSMAIL. He has set up a database. If your name isn’t on that database either you aren’t a member or he made a mistake. You can find the database at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dogsmail/database?method=reportRows&tbl=3
If you are not a member you may only READ the mail, not post..
Normally I’d say something personal at this point, but I just got back from the beach and want to finish this tonight, so Be Excellent to Each Other and Party On Dudes.
News from the RPGA
During the past month a lot of fresh news has fallen out of the RPGA. Topping the list is the fact that WotC will no longer be running Living City. It has been privatized. The company now running it is called Organized Play. The head of organized play is a LC old-timer named Ryan Dancey. In the short term they want to improve the quality of Living City play and HQ friendliness. In the long term they hope to have a character database along with all points earned to date up. The price for Guild Membership will also go down to $5.00 a year.
In related news Polyhedron and the Living Greyhawk Journal will no longer be separate publications. Polyhedron will be part of Dungeon Magazine, while LG Journal will be 16 pages in Dragon.
When either of these events is due to start is unknown at this time.
The Cost of Tournaments is also going down. LG, LC, and LF will be $3.00 per round. All others will be $5.00 per round.
Bards Guild, Wizards Guild, and City Watch have all been converted to 3E and recruiting members. Get in touch with John Barnett for the Bards Guild. For the other two please contact Samuel Middleton (wizards) or David Samuels (city watch). Don’t ask your scribe how to do this, because it wasn’t in the information e-mail, although I’m sure Chris Garrison (see Treasurer e-mail) does.
Table size for RPGA events after October 1st has been changed. Minimum will be 3, maximum will be 6. Good luck to you parties of 3 first level adventurers.
The RPGA/ Living City crew has finally gotten their act together as far as Magic Item creation will go. You will be allowed to sign up to make an item at an Activity Booth when we order one. There will be a maximum value upon what kinds of items you can make, so no Headbands of Perfect Excellence. There will also be a yearly limit to the number you can make. The creation costs will come straight from the DMG regardless of guild memberships.
Defenders of the Faith, Tome and Blood, and Magic of Faerun are all slated to be approved as a package. It’ll probably be a while before they do.
And finally the RPGA has announced that ALL Vibrant Purple Ioun Stones are RARE items, regardless of who made or owns them. Only one allowed per table. Too much abuse of them has been made in the Mid-West cons.

And in last minute news, anybody with further item certificate problems should e-mail certs@organizedplay.com
and explain their problem. Somebody should get back to you shortly thereafter.
The Rat (Ratik Corner)
Before Tom left for Jolly ‘Ole England he left us with 3 NPC organizations in Ratik. This month I am pleased to bring them to you, the readers. They were originally presented by Ben Duncan-Jones on the Living Ratik mailing list and modified to fit into the Living Greyhawk campaign.
The Golan Har Raiders
This tribe of gnolls has plagued house Bredivan and the gnomes of Nonizhold for some time now. They are rapacious raiders interested only in rapine and pillage. However, slave taking is what they are most hated for, particularly amongst those of Suel heritage. These unfortunates suffer scalping and greater humiliation; a cloak of golden scalps is the ultimate status symbol within the tribe. Even their name, Golan Har, reflects this, coming from gnoll's inability to pronounce golden hair correctly. They number upwards of one hundred warriors, not including females, young, and slaves. Their leader is a young powerful fighter named, Sharp Claw, who only recently took leadership of the tribe. The previous chief was killed by Ratikan adventurers who tracked the tribe into the Loftwood after the defeat of the humanoid attack on
fort Bredivan. (Anybody remember this adventure?- Scribe)
Con Watch
August 25, 2001 Other Realms Games Day
CTG will be at Other Realms Saturday August 25, 2001 for the Other Realms Games Day. Last I heard they had Skirmish written by Matt Lau scheduled. Having played the playtest for it I will not be there. The following Monday they had Gem of the North by Andy Rothstien and myself. I have also heard that one of these were not available and it has been changed to The Reckoning. I can tell you that the contract for Gem of the North is what is missing. I just received it before I started writing the Con Watch.
September 29, 2001- DOGS Invitational
The next DOGS con is our yearly DOGS invitational. All DOGS members get in for free, eat for free, and play for free. Each DOG is allowed to bring one non-DOG guest who must pay 10 dollars at the door. All events are Living Greyhawk events. In my opinion that usually means bring a LOT of silver. The following events are to be played:
Slot One and Two: Brendigund’s Bride- A servant of the merchant Auldon Brendigund tells you he needs a few adventurers to accompany Auldon on a trip to meet his new wife. It will be a short walk to Hardby, an entertaining feast, and easy money. What could possibly go wrong? A two-round Living Greyhawk adventure for characters levels 1-6. The man who played it at Gen Con, Andy, says it should run a little short. We will be staying at the same table for both slots.
Between Slots 2 and 3: Living Greyhawk Interactive
Slot 3: Forbidden Choice- Missing for hundreds of years, the shattered remains of this ancient elven chest are now yours, but the contents are missing. Why is this relic so important that Iuz and his minions would take interest in it? An adventure for heroic characters levels 1-6.
October 13-14, 2001- Kennel Con
November- Vet Con (Scheduled date in previous paper. Subject to change.)
Filler
Normally I’d put a VS. article here, but I want to save it for the next paper. Simbul vs. Iuz in a very SPECIAL battle, with special artwork by our own Jon Bennett. This month I thought I’d let my brain run wild over anything game related that comes to my mind. Like why, if the Forgotten Realms is so awesome, did they feel they had to steal Rary’s Spell Enhancer for the Magic of Faerun? Why did they rename Melf’s Acid Arrow in the Players Handbook? I’d like a Magic of Greyhawk book myself, along with a World Book that actually speaks of the difference between Oerth and the other worlds. Then again I’d like to see it for Dragonlance too. Well, I’ve rambled on enough. Address these to me in e-mail or bring it up at a con. I love to talk about things like this. Kept the paper to two pages. A miracle! Til’ next I write, Farewell fellow DOGS!
