Two kittens, both female, rescued in Kaaawa in the same stretch of road where Leo found us last year.
Named for Harriet Tubman and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, icons in the American feminist movement. Lizzie is in the foreground in this picture, Harry in the background.
On our early morning walk on Sunday morning, accompanied by our former neighbors, four kittens came running out into the middle of the road when they heard us coming. They were a little dirty, hungry, with lots of fleas, but otherwise healthy (the kittens, not our friends).
We saw their mother in an empty lot, but couldn't get her to respond. So we've rescued the kittens (2 with us, the other 2 with Chris and Doreen).
A check with a family living nearby determined that the kittens had been seen by their daughters for the first time the day before. Sounds like someone dumped the little family out on this quiet country road. As our vet said, the kittens couldn't have been much luckier.
We're still mourning Buster's loss, but these little ladies have cheered us up immeasurably.
