Elders on Call

COMPREHENSIVE LEADERSHIP PLAN

CCU Pastor, Rev. Summers, will be out of the office from July 11 through November 30, 2003.  He will return to the office December 1, 2003.  The Pastor’s primary mission during this period will be Spiritual Renewal.   Accordingly, Council is putting in place “Elders on Call,” a comprehensive leadership plan to insure the normal functioning of CCU as a faith community. 

By retaining and exercising responsibility for CCU’s life and mission, the Council increases the benefit that can be derived from renewal pastoral or staff leadership. 

ELDERS ON CALL 

Each month two elders will serve as “Elders On Call.”  Their names will be available in the worship folder, newsletter, and on the church answering machine.  “Elders on Call” will provide or relay information as needed, organize help as appropriate, and follow through by checking back with the caller to insure that whatever concern that led to the call has been helpfully addressed.

“Elders on Call” will involve Commissions, Committees, and/or Staff as appropriate.  

• Matters having to do with the buildings, grounds or finances will be referred to the Chair and Vice-Chair of The Support Commission. 
• Membership subjects (including worship, study, fellowship will be referred to the Chair and Vice-Chair of The Membership Commission.
• Witness issues will be directed to the Chair and Vice-Chair of The Witness Commission.
• The Personnel Committee Chair, will continue to support and guide employees and related concerns.
• The Nominating Committee will be active in the fall as usual.
• The Deacons will be advised of and personal or family care matters that arise.
• The Renewal Pastor will be advised of issues having to do with teaching, preaching, worship, pastoral care and support of CCU leadership.
• The Office Administrator, Jane Muench, will consult with and refer calls to “Elders on Call.”
• Everyone is encouraged to go first to “Elders on Call” unless they know for sure who they need to contact.
